FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ'S) - Printer-friendly version

Welcome to the CDH Metrodome group. You are joining with 50 plus other families that are using this program to help defray tuition and other expenses associated with giving your child a first class education. Below I’ve listed the most frequently asked questions that families, new to our program, ask when they first get started. You may have some other questions, and at the end I’ve included contact information. As a note, you may find it easier to get hold of me by e-mail.  I have also including the e-mail address of the coordinator responsible for scheduling training, which is the first step toward working at the Dome.

What is the Metrodome group?-
At any one time the Metrodome employs up to 200 non-profit groups representing churches, school, music programs,4-H groups, and whole host of other groups looking to raise money. If you have been to a baseball game and bought a soda, you are 89 percent likely to have purchased from a non-profit fundraiser. That is the percentage of non-profits working at the Dome. The wages earned are sent directly to the non-profits, which then in turn, send or spend the money on their programs. The Cretin group send the money that you earn to Cretin-Derham hall. CDH then puts the money towards your child’s’ tuition.

How much can I expect to make?
The Metrodome pays 60 dollars per shift per person. Stand managers make 90 dollars for the extra time involved. From this money come insurance, administrative fees and penalties if our inventory and tills do not balance. On the other side, we have the potential to make more money based on what the sales in the stand are. If we are productive we make a percentage of the profits. On any given night, you can make between about $54.00 and $80.00 based on the various factors I listed above. The Xcel pays 50 dollars per shift per person (minus or plus the same factors listed above.) The shifts there are a little shorter, but we rarely make more than the minimum. The amount sent to CDH to be applied to your child’s tuition is non-taxable to you.

How long are the shifts?
At the Dome they are about 6 hours for stand workers, 7 and a half for managers. At the Xcel they are about 5 hours for the stand workers,6 and a half for the managers. Keep in mind that in baseball there could be “extra innings” and that we may be one of the stands that stays open until the end. It happens once in a great while.

How often does the group work?
We work every Twins, Vikings, Gopher Football, Minnesota Wild home game, and a smattering of concerts. There are about150 opportunities to work per year.

What can I expect to be doing there?
We run one of the many concession stands at the Dome. The location varies depending on where they need us. On any given night you could work as a cashier, cook, or back-up. If you choose to you can take the extra training and become a manager.

Can my children work?
Yes. Glad you asked. They must be 16 to work at the Dome,18 to work at the  Xcel. They cannot run a register at the Dome, but they can back-up the registers. There are fewer spots to fit in the under 18 year-olds , but we do try to work the youth in.

How does the scheduling work?
The CDH website will have a link through the “parents” section of their site. We will have the various schedules posted. Pick the games that you are available to work and send a list to me. I can not guarantee that you will work all of the games that you pick. You may be placed on a waiting list.. About a week before the event you will receive a gate list from me in your e-mail stating if you are working or on a waiting list. If you are on a waiting list ,we try to let you know ASAP if you are going to be working or not. On another note, you must have access to e-mail, as this is an e-mail driven scheduling system.

What if I need to cancel one of my dates?
If you sign up for a date ,and then when the gate lists come out, you realize that you have a conflict, contact me as soon as you know. Then I can contact someone on the waitlist and get them to take your spot.

How is the parking downtown?
There are several places to park. The new Guthrie has a ramp that charges ,at most, 5 dollars to park during an event. That price is a good average of what it should cost, at the most ,to park in Minneapolis. Many people car pool to split the costs. There is limited free on street parking at the Xcel. This is your best bet to save some money.

How do I start?
In order to start you working we need to get you scheduled for training. Both the Metrodome and the Xcel require it. Mary Tillman schedules our training. She also disburses the money to CDH. She will collect some contact information from you and get you set up for training. Her contact information is at the end.

How do I know how much I am making?
Mary Tillman submits money to Cretin Derham every one to two months.  When she submits a check, and you have money that will be applied to your account, she will notify you by email that a check has been submitted.  It is your responsibility to contact Mary by email (cdhend@comcast.net) if you would like a more detailed list of your earnings.
