The purpose of the Academic Development Program is to provide compensatory and remedial programs to those students in need of some type of academic support and to assist teachers in modifying programs so as to allow students to achieve.

Services are offered through a Learning Lab course.  This course is a one-trimester, one credit course.  A student can be enrolled in the course as long as the need exists.

  • Work with mainstream teachers to provide success situations
B.  To help students develop study/organizational skills

C.  To have students take ownership for their learning and to develop self-advocacy skills

D.  To help students understand themselves and gain the hope and confidence necessary to deal with their
      learning needs

The following support services are offered to mainstream teachers:

A.  Testing services
  • Oral testing is provided for those students who are better at verbalizing than they are at written expression.
  • If the student needs more time, or if a "different"  environment is needed, the Learning Lab classroom is used.
  • Help is given to teachers to rewrite tests to meet the skill level of students.
B.  Teacher reinforcement and support
  • Search out materials and resources
  • Help teachers design curriculum, course modifications, etc.
  • Facilitate interventions - parent, student, teacher - regarding special needs
