SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
Ms. QK Teaches the following subjects:
PRE-AP BIOLOGY - Honors Year long
This class is designed for college bound/science-oriented students and will include detailed lab work, class discussion,
outside reading and projects. This class prepares students to take an upper-level AP science class at CDH. PRE-AP Biology is different from “Biology: The Living Science” and “Biology:Principles and Explorations” in the following ways: amount of detail, outside class work and speed/depth at which topics are learned.
Ninth grade students in the accelerated science program take this course. These students will be invited and tested
for this class. Register for Physical Science - Honors. All students in accelerated science are required to participate in an
intensive twenty-hour summer session.
Grades 10, 11 (9, by invitation only)
ADVANCED PLACEMENT ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE - Honors Year long – 84650T1
This year long course is designed to be the equivalent of a college environmental science course. After showing
themselves to be qualified on the AP Examination, some students can receive college credit. In this course,
ecological principles, population studies, geology, pollution studies, earth’s resources, environmental policy, land
management issues and environmental justice are part of what is studied. Some outdoor and Saturday field trips
are required, as well as summer reading.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in a weekend class trip to an environmental learning center in
Minnesota. Approximate cost: $180.00.
Prerequisite: Chemistry with a grade of “B” or better.
Grades 11, 12
Advisor: Chronicle (newspaper)
Students design, write, photograph, produce the Chronicle, the Cretin-Derham Hall bi-weekly student newspaper. This is an optional for credit class that meets before school on Tuesday or after school on Thursday.
