Scott Fairweather
I teach Concert Band Jazz Band and Jazz Combo at Cretin-Derham Hall. I also teach marching band, pep band and private lessons during the school day. Concert Band meets everyday and sometimes combines with the Wind Ensemble to what we call
"Full Band" and we rehearse marching, pep, and music for JROTC events.
Jazz Band meets twice a week on Monday and Tuesday morning. Jazz Band performs twice a year in addition to a jazz festival performance and any requested gigs that may happen to arise.
Marching Band mainly happens mainly at the beginning of the school year and the end of the school year. Any student enrolled in band is expected to participate in marching band performances including parades, field shows and other special events requiring our participation. Marching band begins in August as we prepare for our performance at the State Fair Parade before school starts. Students find that starting in August is beneficial not only to prepare musically for events before school starts and during the beginning of the school year, building friendships and learning the layout of the school is also has its advantages before the first day of class begins. We then wrap up the school year with a parade in West St. Paul.
Concert Band meets everyday through the school year and involves 9th and 10th grade students. Concert Band students learn marching band music, pep band music, music for JROTC events in addition to their concert music. Grade requirements include: private lessons with the band faculty, pep band attendance and performances, required event attendance and performances, JROTC event performances, in class assignments, assignments completed using Smart Music computer software, and notes taking in class.
Mr. Fairweather also sets up sound systems for mass and other all school events that occur before during and after school hours. Students who might be interested in learning how to and operating equipment should express their interest to Mr. Fairweather by visiting his office in the band room.
